To Know

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”  Hosea 4:6 NASB

“My people are” is an indication that Scripture is forever active and present, the infallible word of God. It reads true to this day.

The embodiment of knowledge—knowing, being concerned(not with your-self but the state of our culture), premeditated thought(with purpose and intent for the good), in search of truth is without doubt in catastrophic decline. Destroyed is to be cut off, ruining, cease, and silenced. The word lack means having nothing, countless, something necessary that is missing. Knowledge simply means to be concerned, to know, premeditation, concerning truth.

Failure to recognize when knowledge and truth come packaged together has been an issue with man since Eden. The sacrifice of Christ Jesus on the cross becomes a way of escape but requires layers and levels of knowledge to the obedience of God’s word, which is the original problem— obedience. We know truth but disembody truth for temporal gratification.

Truth is found in knowledge obtained through experience. The truth I experience may not be your truthful experience. Adam and Eve were not naked from the start. The awareness of their physical nakedness only came about after the serpent dissected what little knowledge of truth that they possessed at the time. The greater carnage of man became obvious when they were in fact found naked before God— not in the physical sense of the word but the spiritual and mental uncovering with the lack of knowledge to the obedience of his exact words— “Do not eat of this specific tree.”

So here we are today, not evolved much beyond the point of Adam and Eve’s disobedience. We have relinquished the power of truth for a much weaker lie, convincing ourselves successful survival until we are confronted with immovable truth, only lying and blaming circumstances on anything but ourselves. Even after all these years, Adam (we) still blame-shift with our most convincing foot forward.

The current culture with all its perverseness still penetrates our thoughts because we are only hearers and not doers of God’s word (still the issue of obedience to God’s word). Serpent still whispers his sulfuric hair-raising breath on the necks of God’s people with enticing lies that we transform into temporal truth. “Did God say?”

Don’t be destroyed by something you’ve been given authority to defeat. You have not because you ask not— lack is the absence of something needed. You lack money, food, shelter, employment, health— most of these are avoidable— and then there are circumstances beyond our control. But everyone has the time and opportunity to gain and retain knowledge. Seeking knowledge doesn’t come natural or easy, you must desire it, you must make time— which is half the battle with culture. There is no time for anything that involves accessing the truth in learning so as to maintain correct relationship with God and people we occupy the planet with. Those who seek knowledge desire something more than what they can merely see, hear, or feel. They are searching with all diligence to understand life’s purpose and meaning through the One who created their very existence with substance that makes for a hope worth living for— those things to come.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Psalm 1:7
